Project Management tools

 Project Management During Development:

As we were starting to develop our idea's more and have something to make, we knew that we'd need some sort of way to track it all. So we looked around and had 2 main ways of keeping a track of progress. We mainly used microsoft teams to see how everything was going, and mark off what we needed done, and what was still yet to be done. Though right at the start, we ended up using Trello as a way to give everyone tasks which they could tick off when it was done.

What is Trello:

Trello is a work management tool which can be used in a variety of different situations. Managing work projects is mainly what it's used for, and it works very well for managing different roles within games development. It allows you to create lists and list off things which need to be done, which are being worked on and then which are complete. This is really useful for games development, as there are alot of different areas which have to be worked on at the same time, and keeping a track of them all is confusing.

By using trello, we were able to split our different roles apart and create lists of things we needed doing. For example i might have some things i need to do in the design section, another person might have things they need to do in the modeling section etc.

It has been really useful for our development and has helped us keep fairly organised throughout. The main issue we've had using Trello is consistantly updating it, since if we need something small done, we dont see the point of putting it on trello. We only used it for the main parts of development as we just needed to remember what had already been completed.

Useage of Trello:

This is a screenshot of the trello we used. We colour coded different colour to each of us, for example the green tag were things that daniel needed to do and keep a track of. These were mainly around coding the few first puzzles and the basic stuff that we really needed for the game. Purple tags were for me, and were based more around having a design, and this system worked well since each one of our tasks when it would be done, could lead into another person working on it in a different area. The main problem was that there was so much stuff, it was hard to keep constantly updating it with what we needed to do.

Most of our communication so far was done by talking and having a little checklist on apps like Discord, which we could look back to incase we were done with everything. I wish we had used Trello a little more than we did, but for the start it was really good to have. It espcially helped members in my team with finding tasks to do when they felt like there wasnt alot. It also helped our coder seperate all the things he needed to code into small sections, meaning he could work on them at different times and not get confused with which one's he had done and hadnt.
