Event write up
Event Write up:
Our time at The Forum in Norwich was very informative and gave me a new insight to how alot of games are actually showed off, and how they gain popularity. We werent very used to doing this on the first day, but we each had out role and were there when people came up and asked about it, or if someone wanted to test our game. We had a computer infront of us with the game ready to go, and Daniel standing beside it to lead players through the game incase they were having difficulty playing. Me and the others were at the stand, talking about our parts which we did if people asked about it.
Design Document:
Emillia created a Design Document which we used and gave people if they were curious about the development of our game. This document had the creation process of our game, and talked about how much it had really changed from it's original idea. Since our game idea had completely changed as we developed and got more idea's which we thought would be more fitting. The game was originally meant to be alot more based on fantasy, but we took a more realistic turn whilst still keeping it scary and unsettling in it's design.
Pictures of event/Stand:
These are pictures of the stand we had. We had the computer there for people to play on it, a few seats at the front for them to sit down as well. We had out poster board for the game in the background which people could look at as well. Over the main desk we had a few items related to the game, as well as our design document.
We had various props over the table which people could pick up and have a look at too. We were planning to also have some little key chains and items which people could take with them. But we ended up not having enough time, and brought some pens and pencils to give away to people on the day. We even planned to have some masks, but they were deemed a little too scary for the people who might be attending the stand.
Event write up Continued:
The Event was a really good way for our game to be tested as well. Because we developed it, we knew everything you had to do in the levels, and it had almost become muscle memory to us. But having new and younger people play it, has showed some glaring problems with our game, and gives us things we need to fix. It was also nice to have feedback on the game and hear what people thought about it. We were also able to look around at some other games people had produced and it was very inspiring for me. Seeing what other people had poured so much time into, and the different idea's give me alot more ideas myself for things we could do to improve our game.
Evaluation:
Overall, Im glad i was able to do this for the time that i did. I wasnt able to be at the even for as long as i wanted, but the time i was there it was really informative and inspiring. I hope that when i keep developing games, that i can come back to places like this and show them off, to keep gathering feedback and get new idea's and concepts from other talented game developers. Although i do wish our game had been in abit of a better state before we showed it off, im really happy with alot of the feedback we got. Alot of people seemed to enjoy the idea and concept, but the lack of direction in the game made it hard for most people to navigate through it without daniel there to help.
